A job change is prevalent in every industry. Likewise in healthcare, people move from one hospital or clinic or institution to others for various reasons including salary, family, better prospects, learning, and many others.
We still see many healthcare professionals still finding it difficult to get them ready in a few basic things for any job change process
- Resume – Many seem to have an incomplete or vaguely prepared resume. The resume is key for any candidate to create interest with an employer to consider their application. Active job seekers who have the right experience and qualifications but still do not get any interview calls to need to remember that a Resume is one of the major factors.
- Experience Details – Candidates should possess all their work experience-related documents like appointment/offer letter, relieving letter, and salary certificate/slips with them. Many seem to be careless or deflect to collecting these documents for whatever reason. This becomes a major barrier when they pursue the next job opportunity.
Companies that accommodate candidates without relevant documents many times ask them to join for the same or less than the previous salary. You see many healthcare staff would be staying in the same salary even after many years of experience.
- Salary Slips/Documents – Many candidates in the healthcare industry claim to have higher earnings than their actual when the future employer asks them to submit the relevant documents in most cases it appears lesser than their claim. Candidates should get a salary certificate from their current/previous company. If not at least they should have a bank statement that acknowledges their salary claims.
In case of cash receipts, please ensure you get a copy salary certificate from your workplace before leaving.
Lately, we have seen many candidates faking the salary or experience letters according to their future expectations. Also, they easily get caught immediately or later and run away from that employer.
Candidates need to remember that the healthcare fraternity is very small, people can easily connect and verify the claims and background.
- Discontinue/Absconding – When you decided not to continue to work in any institution, candidates should gain the courage to inform the respective institution and serve the notice period and get relieved. Else this will hamper their future prospects
- Board/Council registration – In healthcare, most clinical & supporting professionals have to get themselves registered in their respective council/board to practice in the region. Please learn the registration procedure and ensure to register immediately to improve your job prospects
- Relocation/Location-based opportunity – Many are on the verge of seeking a job, accepting the long-distance, and have issues continuing later. Choose a workplace that is anywhere not beyond 5 to 8 km from your living area. Since most healthcare jobs are shift basis, it would be difficult to manage if it’s a very long distance.
- Spouse or relative enrollment – Many job seekers wanted their spouses to be hired along with them for their own valid reason. They should remember that any institution would be happy to employ both provided there is a right opportunity. The issue raises when few candidates put this as a demand to join and later they are concerned about not being given the right opportunity for their spouse or relative. In some cases, this leads to their abrupt exit as well.
I hope the above pointers are helpful to you.
Incredible things will happen when you decide to take control of what you have instead of worrying about what you do not have!
I wish all the active job seekers very good luck!
