Role Overview

The NICU Junior Doctor is responsible for providing medical care to critically ill and premature newborns under the supervision of senior neonatologists. This role involves patient monitoring, emergency response, and coordination with the NICU team to ensure high-quality neonatal care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Care:
    • Assist in the assessment and management of neonates in the NICU.
    • Monitor vital signs, ventilator settings, and other critical parameters.
    • Administer medications and treatments as directed by senior doctors.
  • Emergency Response:
    • Respond promptly to neonatal emergencies, including resuscitation and stabilization.
    • Perform basic procedures such as IV line insertion, blood sampling, and airway management under supervision.
  • Rounds & Documentation:
    • Participate in daily clinical rounds and case discussions.
    • Maintain accurate and timely patient records in the hospital system.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with nurses, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
    • Escalate critical issues to senior neonatologists promptly.
  • Patient & Family Communication:
    • Provide updates to parents regarding the baby’s condition and care plan (as guided by senior doctors).

Qualifications

  • Education: MBBS (mandatory).
  • Preferred: Postgraduate training or experience in Pediatrics/Neonatology.
  • Certifications: BLS and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong clinical and diagnostic skills in neonatal care.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a high-acuity environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Familiarity with NICU equipment and protocols.
